AUS Television: Offspring, Episode 1.5

Offspring
Series One, Episode Five
Original Air Date:  September 19, 2010

Nina is struggling with the realization that she may be in love with a man who has a missing wife and what to do about it so she opts to try avoiding him.  Kim has some big news for her partner, Renee.  Jimmy and Odile's relationship ends.  Chris and Nina finally work on getting past all the obstacles.

I got a good laugh when Nina blamed her coffee for ordering a slice of double chocolate mud cake with whipped cream and sprinkles.  The poor coffee.  I'm sure it didn't mean to make her have the cake.  Coffees really should mind their manners a bit better.

Nina thinks if she keeps her feelings out of the situation with Chris that will make it easier.  How she acts when she sees him at work only makes him ask why she's avoiding him.  She insists she isn't but she clearly is.  She doesn't know how to deal with the situation so avoiding Chris is the only thing she knows to do.  She can't seem to get through her day without having vivid fantasies of her and Chris in bed.  To avoid him, she spends part of her day hiding in a cupboard.

Once she finally leaves the cupboard, Nina stumbles (literally) into a room and finds Kim performing a self-ultrasound because she's 13 weeks pregnant.  Kim and her partner, Renee have been trying to get pregnant.  They had agreed Renee would carry the baby but she cannot seem to conceive.  Kim doesn't know how to tell Renee she's pregnant and, when she does, things don't go that great.

Chris and Nina talk about the state of things between them.  He wants to know how she feels.  She can't get past his situation.  Their talk goes about as good as Kim and Renee's (without one stabbing the other with a pen).

Kim later locks herself in the storeroom and refuses to talk to anyone except Nina.  She is worried about her relationship with Renee and reveals to Nina that the father of her baby is Dr. Clegg.  Later, while washing up before a procedure with the good doctor donor, he tells Nina he has reason to believe he is the sire of the child.

Billie is still with Boyd and still using him as a replacement for Mick.  He's good to carry books and papers for her and for trying to make Mick jealous but she virtually ignores him apart from that.  Ivy is still in the picture with Mick and at his home when Billie arrives to pick up her scarf.  Billie pretty much ignores Ivy which leads Ivy to start criticizing Billie once she leaves and Mick isn't too keen on that.

When Billie doesn't show up for the lunch date she agrees to with Boyd, he goes to the cafe and talks with Jimmy.  Boyd knows she's using him and that she's ready to dump him but he still can't help but like her.  When Billie shows up at the cafe that night, Boyd steps up and dumps her before she can do it to him.  For the first time in his life, he is the dumper instead of the dumpee.

Billie and Nina see Cherie coming out of a hotel and Billie wants to follow her to find out what she is up to.  Mick and Ivy catch Billie with her hand up to her shoulder in a rubbish bin fishing for a piece of paper Cherie had thrown away.  She finds an envelope addressed:  "To my darling Cherie".  She goes to Darcy's home and rifles through a couple of drawers looking for information but is interrupted by Cherie.  Billie later sees Cherie get into a car with a man which only fuels her suspicion.

No one can find Jimmy because he and Odile (Leah de Niese) are just getting out of their stint in the slammer.  It appears their happy relationship has come to an end.  Jimmy informs Odile that he was contacted by NASA because an astronaut on the space station got a horrible space virus in the bum and he cannot let NASA down.  Odile says she must get back to Nigeria and her husband and eighteen children because her husband is about to be coronated next week.  It was the most amicable (and amusing) breakup I think I've seen on television yet.

Darcy takes Ray to Geraldine's in hopes she will watch him.  Of course, she does.

This show was all about breaking up and making up (for some).  Kim and Renee mended their relationship over the ultrasounds of their unborn child.  Nina and Chris apologize to one another and they kiss--TWICE!!  They try to make a date but their schedules don't work out to where they both are off work or on call at the same time.  After a few minutes of back and forth they settle on Friday no matter what else they've got going on.

I can't wait to see how Nina and Chris' date goes next week. From the previews it's going to be a real doosey! This show gets better every week!
