When cold-blooded killer and drug runner Carmen Vega escapes from prison while at her eldest sons funeral the team is called into action.  The case becomes personal when Carmen Vega has Shea's girlfriend, Vanessa, kidnapped and threatens to kill her unless Shea sees to it Carmen is allowed to escape.  Vanessa's abduction, and the possibility that someone from the Marshall's service leaked info on the cons to Vega causes Erica and Lloyd to contemplate running.

At Edgecombe Female Penitentiary in New York, New York, the women are in the showers and one, Carmen Vega (Lauren Velez) is joking with the others about a man she knew on the outside.  A guard tells Carmen the warden wants to see her but Carmen says she needs to shower and the warden can wait.  The guard informs Carmen her son was found in a dumpster with a bullet in his brain.  The warden gives Carmen his deepest condolences but he cannot allow her to attend the funeral.  The warden mentions her drug trade and Carmen insists it was her husbands business and her son, Sebastian, was drawn into it just as she was only she was fortunate enough to get into prison where she could get a second chance.  As the guard is dragging her from the office she begs and pleads with the warden that she must see her son and hold his hand one last time before he's buried.

The Breakout Kings are called into action when five men escape from prison after an 18-wheeler crashes through the wall at Attica.  Ray sends Shea undercover at Attica to find out information on a sixth inmate who bailed on the escape putting Shea into danger.  Meanwhile, the new chief director pays a visit to Charlie letting him know that he wants to change things around with the team and they might very well lose one of their members.

Ronald Barnes (Jeff Seymour) walks through the yard of Attica Correctional Facility in Attica, New York holding a map.  He's walking as if pacing off steps to find something drawing curious looks from other inmates.  He makes eye contact with two inmates, Chester Rhodes (Avery Kidd Waddell) and Sandy Clemente (Dean Chekvala).  Rhodes taps on a table in front of yet another inmate, Tran Jun (Jeff Ong) who looks up from what he's writing then stands and follows Rhodes to stand before Barnes along with Clemente and a fourth inmate, Carlos Zepeda (Lombardo Boyar).  An inmate behind Barnes tells him he thinks he's lost.  Barnes turns and informs the man he's just enjoying the sunshine.  He's told by the larger inmate that that part of the yard belongs to him and he needs to get out of there.  Barnes looks to his watch and tells the man that it's funny as he was about to say the same thing to him.  At that moment, an 18-wheeler crashes through the wall of the prison yard.  As the guards start the lockdown, a man gets out of the truck with a gun and begins firing.  Barnes, Rhodes, Clemente, Jun and Zepeda run to the trailer of the truck and get inside.  In the process, Rhodes takes one of the guards hostage.  A guard fatally shoots the man who drove the truck into the prison yard.  The back of the trailer lowers and a black SUV drives out and through the hole opened in the wall by the 18-wheeler.

The team is called in when a dangerous psychiatric inmate escapes during a field trip to a medieval-themed restaurant.  As the man is a known killer, the team knows they must work fast before he can kill again.  When they learn he has abducted a young television host time starts running out even faster.  An old face returns to the Breakout Kings to help them track the inmate through the Adirondack's.  Erica has flashbacks of the area where they are searching for the inmate as it is where she sought vengeance on one of the men who murdered her father.  Meanwhile, Charlie's father's watch is missing and he blames one of the cons for taking it.

At Sunnybrook Psychiatric Detention Center in New Hampton, New York, several inmates are lining up next to a bus for a field trip to Chivalry Castle, a medieval-themed restaurant.  When the woman in charge of them, Paula Berry, asks why the are going on the trip one of the inmates, Kenny, raises his hand.  He answers because they listen and have good behavior.  She asks why Todd and Phillip aren't going with them and Kenny again raises his hand to answer because they didn't listen and had bad behavior.  She tells them field trips can be taken away so they must follow the rules then allows them to board the bus.  One of the orderlies, Victor, stops an inmate, Bennett Ballester, telling him he can't take the stuffed animal he is holding with him.  Bennett begs Paula and she tells Victor it's alright and to let him go.

When a dangerous hit man escapes from prison the team must find him and get him back into custody before he can complete his deadly mission.  Meanwhile, Shea overhears a conversation between Charlie and Ray about Ray not being a full-fledged U.S. Marshall.  This leads to conflict between the team and we finally learn exactly what each of the cons did to land them in prison.

At McCollum-Walker Correction Facility in Suffield, Connecticut, Virgil Downing (Mark Pelligrino) is rolling a magazine in his cell.  His cellmate tells him he's rolling it wrong if he wants to inflict real pain with it.  He continues to tell him he'll need a guy like him for whatever it is he has going.  When he receives no response as the man puts the rolled-up magazine into his shirt sleeve, he tells him the fact he feels he's too good to talk to any of them is why no one likes him and that he should watch his back.  A guard knocks on the door to get Virgil.  He tells him to turn around and step away from the door.  When the guard enters the cell, Virgil uses the magazine to get out of the cuffs then overpowers the guard and takes his keys.  He places the magazine on his cellmates bunk as the man looks on in surprise then, taking the guards vest, he leaves the cell and closes the door.  He clings to an overhead steam pipe in the hall and another guard passes right beneath him, leaving an entry open.  Downing walks through an area where another inmate is mopping the floor.  He breaks off part of the handle and stabs in inmate with it.  As another guard enters to assist the injured inmate, Downing targets him with pepper spray and exits the area.  A guard finds the first guard Downing overpowered and calls a "man down" alert.  As the guard team organizes to apprehend Downing, a guard in the security room watches him head from block to block on his way west.  The guard team go outside at D block, where the Sergeant said Downing was headed but he is nowhere to be seen.  Downing exits A Block and uses the vest to bypass the razor wire and goes over the fence.

US Television: Breakout Kings, Episode 1.9, "One for the Money"

The "Breakout Kings" are called into action when a charming thief escapes from prison.  As they delve further into his life, they find a long trail of women easily under his spell.  Could one of them be his true love and the key to finding him?  Meanwhile, Shea wants a conjugal visit with his wife but convincing Charlie and Ray to allow it is a huge hurdle so he takes matters into his own hands.

At Orleans Correctional Facility in Albion, New York, a prisoner's cell has been trashed.  When complaining to the guards does no good, one of the prisoners, Andre Brennan (Richard Burgi), convinces the other that he needs to retaliate against the three men he feels trashed the cell.  He lays out the plan the man should follow and assures him he will be there to back him up.  The plan goes into action and Andre again provides assurance he will be there for backup.  The attack begins and, when the action starts, Andre quietly slips away in the confusion.  Andre and another prisoner go to the roof where Andre scales the side of the building and leaves the grounds for a waiting SUV.

US Television: Breakout Kings, Episode 1.8, "Steaks"

The team is called in when two men escape prison in the coffin of a large inmate they killed.  As they have taken a guard hostage, they must be found before they can do anything to him.  When they find the guard dead and learn that the escapees have an agenda, the team must work fast.  Ray gives the cons an incentive:  whoever does the best work on the case can claim a free steak dinner being offered by a new restaurant.

At Cayuga Correction Facility in Auburn, New York it is breakfast time.  The prisoners are shuffling through the line to get their scrambled eggs and one of the inmate serving the eggs, Carl McCann (Matthew John Armstrong), removes a bag of white powder from his shirt sleeve and pours in on a portion of the eggs and covers it with a spoon of more egg.  When a heavyset inmate (Michel C. Foucault) arrives in front of him he gives him a single spoonful of egg.  The inmate tells McCann to keep them coming and McCann gives him another large spoonful.  The heavyset man sits down with his breakfast and begins to eat as McCann watches on from the food line.  He soon begins feeling the effects of the powder.  He grabs his chest then his head falls back in death.  The prison doctor calls the time of death as 10:17 and tells an inmate orderly in the infirmary, Oliver Day (Jonathan Keltz) to call Potter's Field to tell them they need special accommodation for a large corpse.  A white truck carrying the large pine box and four inmates to assist with burial enters Potter's Field followed by a car.  Back at the prison, the doctor is examining the knee of another prisoner.  He asks his nurse to get the man a cold compress but she cannot open the door to get it.  At Potter's Field, the men get out of the truck to begin the burial while the guard watching them, Officer Dirk Ferris (Jesse Bond) taunts them the entire time.  When the nurse cannot open a door she calls the doctor over for assistance.  The doctor struggles with the door and once he finally manages to get it open, the body of the heavyset prisoner falls out onto him.  At Potter's Field, when the box hits the ground, the lid bursts off and McCann and Oliver Day jump out of the box.  They overtake Ferris and take his rifle.  They take the keys to the car and put Ferris in it then drive out of the cemetery.

The team is called into action when a man escapes prison after murdering his mother and taking a young woman hostage.  As they work the case, they learn the young woman isn't really a hostage but instead, the escapees girlfriend.  What is even more surprising is which of the two is the passive participant and which one is the aggressive.  Meanwhile, both Julianne and Erica express interest in someone on the team.

It is visiting day at Wallkill Correctional Facility in Wallkill, New York.  The families and loved ones of various prisoners have come to visit.  One man, Barry, is visited for the first time by a girl he met online, Starla Roland.  Another prisoner, Mars O'Connell (Rodney Eastman) is visited by his mother.  Mars' mother had told him he wasn't her son anymore unless he apologized to her.  Thinking she was there for that apology, she gently touches her sons face.  He takes hold of her and puts a knife to her throat.  He orders the guards to open the fence or he will cut her throat.  When the guard gives him an ultimatum to release her or be shot, he apologizes to his mother then cuts her throat.  He then takes Starla hostage and holds the bloody knife to her throat.  The protect the children and families inside the gate, the guard orders the gates opened.  Mars moves through the gate with Starla.  He drags her to her car and orders her to drive away.

US Television: Breakout Kings, Episode 1.6, "Like Father, Like Son"

When a dangerous inmate with anti-government views escapes from prison the team are called into action.  They have one day to find him before he can plant and detonate a bomb in a grand attempt to honor his hero and avenge his mother's death, which he blames on the government.  Meanwhile, Lloyd struggles with the choice of whether or not to call his father despite knowing everything his mother told him about the man was lies.

At Federal Corrections Institution in Fairton, New Jersey, an inmate returns to cell #12 and his cellmate, Christian Beaumont, asks if he was able to get what he went for.  The man sits down on his bunk and takes out a small bag of flour he stole from the kitchens for Beaumont.  As Beaumont lectures his cell mate on the amount of money spent on the prison systems, he dismantles a light bulb and puts the flour into the glass of the bulb.  He drops the bulb down the front of his trousers then he and his cell mate shake hands.  His cellmate tells him he will miss his wisdom and wishes him luck tomorrow.  Beaumont tells his cellmate to "keep fighting the fight, patriot".  At the county court house, Beaumont is sitting across from a lawyer who has a threatening letter Beaumont had sent to a government official.  He is told that if he pleads guilty a six month sentence will be recommended for the offense.  Beaumont tells the man he has to go to the bathroom.  When the man asks for an answer first, Beaumont cites the violation of his 14th amendment rights by him not being granted to bathroom facilities.  He even includes case law establishing the violation.  The man signals a court officer to take Beaumont to the mens room.  Once there, Beaumont retrieves the light bulb and adds to it a fuse which he holds in place with the gum he's been chewing.  He lights the fuse with a match and, when the court officer comes back in to get him, he throws the bulb out to the mans feet.  When the bulb explodes, Beaumont gets the keys off the officer and unlocks his cuffs.  He takes the officer's gun and shoots another court officer who comes to check on the scene.

When Leila Tomkins escapes from prison Charlie, Ray and the team must jump into action to prevent her from reaching her son, Taylor and harming him or anyone else.  They follow a long line of men Leila has conned and used to escape hoping one of them will lead them to her.  Meanwhile, Lloyd is dealing with his own problems as his prison gambling debts have grown to $800 and he's been given the ultimatum of pay up or be killed.

At Bixell Correctional Facility in Bedford, New York, Leila Tomkins is pacing nervously back and forth telling herself to "smile, everything's gonna be fine".  A guard, Eddie, comes to get her saying the warden wants to see her.  They go to a deserted room where they begin kissing and she asks him if he "brought it", which he replies he did.  He gives her a garment bag and she tells him to not go anywhere while she goes to change clothes.  She puts on the suit and heels he has brought for her and goes back to him.  She takes a cell phone from her pocket, causing him to ask where she got it from.  She tells him from another friend and shows him the phone that has a picture of his son on it.  She tells him if he wants to see his son outside of a pine box she needs to be in town in a half hour.  Eddie pushes her against the shelf but she warns him against taking any action.  She tells him she's already thought of how he can get her out.  A Scared Straight program is going on at the visiting block and it ends in 10 minutes.  Reluctantly, he complies.  As he's walking her outside, he tells her she will get caught but she assures him she'll make it out just fine.  She tells him to keep the other guards busy or his son dies and she threatens the woman ushering the Scared Straight participants onto the bus with death ensuring her a place on the bus.

When an accused pedophile escapes from prison the team is called in to find him and get him back behind bars before he can either hurt anymore children or contact anyone who put him in prison in the first place.  Lloyd has fascinated by the strange circumstances in Joe Ramsey's case file because they don't fit the typical profile of an abuser.  When the possibility that Ramsey might actually be innocent comes to light, will they be able to apprehend the real abuser before it is too late for Joe?

At Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts, a film crew for "Prison Life" is filming a story about art expression in the prison environment.  One of the prisoners, Joesph Ramsey, watches the woman hosting the story as she talks to the cameras.  Back in his cell, Joe removes the eraser from a pencil and begins working with it to transform it.  The next day, the film crew makes the decision to film a white prisoner who is rapping in the prison yard.  Joe steals a jacket and hat from the back of one of the directors chairs and grabs a headset while the crew isn't watching their equipment.  He puts on the jacket and grabs a box and begins walking through the prison yard pretending to be one of the film crew.  He's pretending to talk to his wife on the headset.  He manages to walk coolly through all the prison checkpoints and out of the prison.  He is stopped by the film crew vans by another crew member who asks if he's new.  He answers "yeah" and hands the man the box he is carrying and walks away later breaking into a run to escape.

Lloyd, Shea and Erica are called in when exceptionally dangerous prisoner Theodore 'T-Bag' Bagwell escapes from the Fox River State Penitentiary in Joliet, Illinois.  Using the theory he has escaped to see a woman, the team follow him and the trail of bodies he leaves through Illinois, Indiana and Ohio fearing Bagwell is headed to Canada.  However, in Ohio they make a shocking discovery about Bagwell's purpose for escaping prison and where he is truly headed.  Will they catch Bagwell before he can hurt anyone else and will Lloyd get the opportunity he has long-desired:  to be able to have a face-to-face conversation with Bagwell and analyze him or will Bagwell make his escape for good?

At Fox River State Penitentiary in Joliet, Illinois, a prisoner is forced to brush the teeth of Theodore 'T-Bag' Bagwell (Robert Knepper).  When the one doing the brushing spills water on Bagwell while giving him water to rinse his mouth, the man is ordered to draw the curtain to the cell then get the "hurt stick".  Before he can retrieve the stick, a guard opens the curtain and informs Bagwell his transfer has been approved.  Bagwell pulls the inside of his pants pocket out, looks to his young cellmate and tells him "let's take a walk, boy".  The young man grabs the pocket and leaves the cell with Bagwell and the guard.  Bagwell is frisked by the guards then moved through the gates for his transport.  He turns back to the young man and tells him to keep a candle burning for him with a wink.
