The Ten Network recently announced that Offspring, the Australian drama starring Asher Keddie, Kat Stewart and Deborah Mailman has been picked up for a third season. The show has consistently delivered strong ratings especially in the much desired 18-49 demographic.
Production on the third season will begin later this year.

Jimmy and Tammy are going ahead with their plans to get married and Nina rallies the Proudman family together to be supportive of Jimmy. However, things don't go exactly as planned and Jimmy receives some distressing news. Billie, Mick and Andrew go forward with their plans.
Nina is elected to call Jimmy. She leaves a message for him saying they want to work things out and asking him not to cut the family off. Mick doesn't want to get involved in the situation with Jimmy, something Geraldine and Billie doesn't understand.
Nina enters a room of the hospital to find Patrick holding a towel to his bleeding face. As she is tending to his injury, she asks how he got it and when he doesn't answer asks if it has something to do with his sister's situation. They bicker lightly about their personality traits.

Nina worries over Fraser's mistake and wonders if she's putting her feelings for him ahead of their professional relationship. She sits in her car at work wondering how she will work through the situation when Patrick surprises her. He asks about Fraser and she tells him she tried calling him three times last night as she would any student. He asks if she wants him to take care of it but she says it's her responsibility. When she arrives at the nurses desk, Cherie and Kim are talking about how excited they are about the Fundraising Ball. Zara walks up and asks if Fraser is there yet. As Patrick walks past, Zara asks if he will be coming to the Fundraising Ball and he replies he doesn't want to miss the drama and debauchery they'll be talking about tomorrow. Clegg asks Nina for a word in his office. He tells her they need to determine if Dr. King has what it takes to be a surgeon. If he has Nina's confidence, he has Clegg's.

Fraser and Kim get in Patrick's way in the hall as Nina and Clegg round the corner. They call the two down and Clegg takes Patrick back to his office while Nina takes Kim, Zara and Fraser aside to tell them they were wrong about Patrick. Jolene, a woman who has had four children at St. Francis, and is in for baby #5 has been admitted for delivery. Patrick catches Nina and Fraser kissing in an empty room. She and Fraser follow him and Nina apologizes for the previous misunderstanding. The conversation moves from an easily accepted apology to Patrick feeling they are blaming him for the misunderstanding even thought they are just trying to understand the situation.

Cherie and Sam's relationship ends. Darcy and Geraldine come to a decision about getting re-married. Jimmy makes an announcement to his family.
Nina has a sex dream about Fraser King causing her to vow that she will nip the situation between the two of them in the bud because "she's a professional woman". At work, they see the abusive husband Fraser had a run-in with previously with Dr. Clegg and wonder if his wife has been re-admitted or filed a complaint. She talks to him about the kiss telling him she doesn't think it can happen again and that she did enjoy it and find him attractive and under different circumstances things could be different. She explains she is in a position of responsibility and it is about priorities and timing. He assures her he would never take advantage of his personal feelings for her in a professional context. Later, while looking at an ultrasound, Nina tells Fraser she might have over thought the situation between them and suggests if they set a few boundaries they could go out for a drink or meal. He starts to kiss her and she stops him saying it would be a date with boundaries. She and Fraser have a quiet dinner together that leads to them going back to her apartment for a night together. As Nina is enjoying the sight of a naked Fraser in her kitchen, Tammy and Jimmy, both naked, come downstairs. Nina stands in front of Fraser and makes the introductions before they go back to her bedroom. At work, Nina feels somewhat awkward with Fraser and he tells her he'll make sure it will stay just between them if that's what she wants.

Nina Proudman is living a happy life in Baltimore, Maryland when she receives word her father has had a heart attack. She returns to Australia and finds she must make a choice about whether to return to the United States or remain in Australia with the family and job she loves. Nina looks out upon Baltimore thinking of her life there thus far. She's been in Baltimore for five months, had zero panic attacks, has delivered 68 babies, has 3 1/2 new friends, has had 3 flings with quite nice men (no major sparks but at least the men were unmarried and not her sisters ex and refrained from blowing anything up) and her sexual performance while in the U.S. is an 8. She's grounded, centered and living in the moment confident she can hang onto it when she receives a text to ring home as her father has had a heart attack.

AUS Television: Offspring Coming Back for Season Two in 2011
The Ten Network has announced their plans for 2011 and my and your favorite Australian drama/comedy series Offspring will be returning next year for a second season! This is fantastic news as we will get to see just what will happen with Chris Havel and Nina Proudman in front of that lift. Will they get in it, ride down to the ground floor then go their separate ways, she to Baltimore and he to a life with Alice and Lucy? Will things finally work out like one of Nina's fantasies and they will retire to a balloon-filled room?

In this two-part season finale, the entire Proudman family, Cherie, Mick, and Chris Havel are all dealing with the fall-out of Mick and Nina having spent one night together and revealing that secret to Billie. That one secret has torn everyone apart. Nina has a chance at a new life in Baltimore, Maryland in the United States. It will be a fresh start for a whole new Nina. Will she take the job and say goodbye to everyone and everything she's ever known and loved?
Part I:
Nina has been leaving messages for Billie but they have all gone unanswered. At work, Dr. Clegg is critiquing Kim for the way she answers the phone. Apparently, her voice isn't as friendly and sing-songy as Zara's. Nina is given a case of a woman carrying a child for her sister and is 33 weeks along into her pregnancy. She has presented with acute bleeding. Her sister is there with her. The woman will have to have an emergency Cesarean because the baby is in distress. As Nina watches the two sisters comforting one another, she imagines her and Billie in a similar situation: Nina carrying a baby for Billie.
Cherie tells Darcy she has a man coming over that night and she wants Sam to meet Darcy and Ray. Nina talks with Mick about Billie. He has been staking out Geraldine's place as Billie is avoiding him as well. When Mick arrives home, Jimmy questions him about what is wrong. Mick wants to drop the issue but Jimmy persists and Mick eventually tells him about his night with Nina. Jimmy goes to Geraldine's to see Billie and ends up letting things slip to Geraldine about Mick and Nina, something she didn't know about.

Nina and Alice Havel have their meeting. Nina and Mick lament over telling Billie about the one night they spent together. Cherie finally comes clean about Ray to Sam but he has a surprise for her of his own. Billie learns the truth about Nina and Mick.
Nina is working herself up to calling Alice Havel and she's imagining all the different ways the conversation could happen. She's even got her own cheering section in her mind giving her the courage to pick up the phone. The first time Nina calls in her head, Alice calls the meeting off, the second time, she calls her spineless. When Nina really calls, Alice is pleasant and gives Nina a date and place where she thinks they could meet and tells her she hasn't told Chris about them meeting because he's had a lot on his mind. Nina wants to call the meeting off but she can't seem to get the words in to do so thus causing the cheering section to express their displeasure with her handling of the matter.
Billie is still upset over everything that happened with Stacy and the baby. She spends time at work thinking about it and is short with callers to the agency. She viciously cleans the office windows while Cherie, who has dropped by with Ray, informs her she's feeling terrible because she still hasn't told Fireman Sam about Ray. After listening to Cherie for a few seconds, Billie spits out "Cherie, life IS pain. Deal with it!" and goes back inside, throws a few things into her purse and leaves.

Stacy is back and, this time, she's in the hospital because her blood pressure is high and she's ready to give birth. She wants Billie to be her support person. Cherie and her fireman friend meet and have a date. Nina focuses on why Chris hasn't told Alice about her. Jimmy goes in for his drug trial and gets more than he bargained for, both good and bad. Chris finally tells Alice about Nina but how will Alice take the news?
Nina has a small fender bender while trying to parallel park (she hits the rather old and run down car behind her). She leaves a note in true Nina style, fantasizing the entire time and noting that she's leaving the note because she's a good person. As she is walking away, she has to stop and think if she really IS a good person because, after all, she IS obsessed with a married man.
Kim and Zara watch Nina (and talk about her, of course) as she is having trouble deciding which way to go at work. Kim takes Nina into a room and talks to her about her relationship with Chris. Kim makes a "pro's" and "con's" table on a whiteboard (which is very funny) to help Nina in her decision making. Dr. Clegg comes into the room to take part in the "whiteboard analysis" as he calls it, but Nina erases the table and leaves the room before he can add his two cents worth in.

Nina's guilt is working overtime over her night with Mick while Chris was in Brisbane. Mick is coping with the aftermath of his night with Nina and is getting plenty of concern and advice from the Proudman family. Nina must perform a cesarean on a brain dead woman to try and save the baby. An old friend of Billie's returns. Nina reveals the truth to Chris.
Nina is feeling guilty about her night with Mick and wakes up seeing the word "guilty" written everywhere. She fantasizes Chris sitting in her bedroom talking about how he went away for a few days and she couldn't resist another man. When she denies it was anything like that, Mick shows up. Chris and Mick end up having a conversation about how Chris sees Mick as Billie's man because he thinks they're meant for one another (as does Mick).
At Geraldine's Billie questions Nina as to why she's barely spoken to her or looked at her all morning. When Geraldine starts pressing Billie about what she is studying and any problems she might have then suggests Billie should have Nina help her, Billie says Nina is too busy having sex to help her. This draws the curiosity of Geraldine and Jimmy and makes Nina even more uncomfortable than she already is. Everyone assumes it was Chris Havel Nina was with the night before and when asked, she agrees. Jimmy mentions that he's taking some food to Mick. Nina and Billie ask him about in (in stereo!) and he tells them that Mick had an accident last night. Nina's guilt is working overtime over her night with Mick while Chris was in Brisbane. Mick is coping with the aftermath of his night with Nina and is getting plenty of concern and advice from the Proudman family. Nina must perform a cesarean on a brain dead woman to try and save the baby. An old friend of Billie's returns. Nina reveals the truth to Chris.
Nina is feeling guilty about her night with Mick and wakes up seeing the word "guilty" written everywhere. She fantasizes Chris sitting in her bedroom talking about how he went away for a few days and she couldn't resist another man. When she denies it was anything like that, Mick shows up. Chris and Mick end up having a conversation about how Chris sees Mick as Billie's man because he thinks they're meant for one another (as does Mick).
At Geraldine's Billie questions Nina as to why she's barely spoken to her or looked at her all morning. When Geraldine starts pressing Billie about what she is studying and any problems she might have then suggests Billie should have Nina help her, Billie says Nina is too busy having sex to help her. This draws the curiosity of Geraldine and Jimmy and makes Nina even more uncomfortable than she already is. Everyone assumes it was Chris Havel Nina was with the night before and when asked, she agrees. Jimmy mentions that he's taking some food to Mick. Nina and Billie ask him about in (in stereo!) and he tells them that Mick had an accident last night. Chris leaves for Brisbane to check on the lead relating to his missing wife, Alice. Something great happens for Mick with his music. Darcy and Billie meet Cherie's adoptive father, the ultra-religious Gareth. Bad telephone connections and disconnections lead to a massive break down in communication between Nina and Chris with disastrous results.
Chris makes preparations at work for his absence before leaving for Brisbane. He takes Nina aside to apologize again for everything and to say goodbye. He will be gone a week and Nina wonders to herself "what's the etiquette for saying farewell to a man you almost had sex with on the occasion of his search for his missing wife?". That's a question we've all pondered at least once, right? No? I don't think so, either. They share a quick kiss before she ushers him off so he won't miss his plane.

Nina is nervously making preparations for her date with Chris Havel. Billie is convinced that Cherie is having an affair with an older man. Geraldine has a date with a mystery man, the identity of which turns out to be shocking to Jimmy. Nina's date with Chris doesn't exactly go as planned so they plan and second date. The identity of Cherie's "mystery man" is finally revealed. Chris Havel gets some big news.
Nina goes to buy condoms for her date with Dr. Hottie. What she imagines while looking over the vast selection of condoms is hiliarious! One of the best scenes from a television show ever!
While Nina is getting ready for her date with Doc Hottie, Billie points out that Nina hasn't "de-owled" her room. She's got owls all over the place which Billie artfully points out isn't good because they're almost totally sexless as far as birds go. Nina doesn't want to overthink things but when she thinks Chris has arrived, Nina begins madly removing all traces of her owls from her bedroom.

Nina is struggling with the realization that she may be in love with a man who has a missing wife and what to do about it so she opts to try avoiding him. Kim has some big news for her partner, Renee. Jimmy and Odile's relationship ends. Chris and Nina finally work on getting past all the obstacles.
I got a good laugh when Nina blamed her coffee for ordering a slice of double chocolate mud cake with whipped cream and sprinkles. The poor coffee. I'm sure it didn't mean to make her have the cake. Coffees really should mind their manners a bit better.
Nina thinks if she keeps her feelings out of the situation with Chris that will make it easier. How she acts when she sees him at work only makes him ask why she's avoiding him. She insists she isn't but she clearly is. She doesn't know how to deal with the situation so avoiding Chris is the only thing she knows to do. She can't seem to get through her day without having vivid fantasies of her and Chris in bed. To avoid him, she spends part of her day hiding in a cupboard.

Nina goes back to work Monday after obsessing over the situation between Chris and Zara all weekend. Darcy and Cherie are giving a naming ceremony for their son, Ray, and they've sent invitations to all of the family and friends. Cherie wants everyone to bring one object that "defines" them for a time capsule. Mick tries to work on his music but struggles because he's missing Billie.
Nina is still upset over the incident at work with Chris and Zara and wants to send him an e-mail about it but Billie advises her against it saying she'll look like a total psycho. Billie is full of advice for her, it seems.
Every time she sees Chris or Zara she envisions them together. At work, things are rather uncomfortable between Nina and Chris. When Chris finally does talk to her and tries to explain the incident in the storeroom, Nina takes Billies advice and tells him she hasn't given it a second thought and that she has a date with someone named Ricardo. Note to Nina: Billies advice might not always be right, you know.

A couple with an overdue baby comes into the hospital for an induced labor. They want everyone involved in the delivery to be naked because they want their child born into a "room of natural bodies". Cherie and Darcy are trying to figure out how to deal with the constant crying of their son. Geraldine Proudman wants to enter the field of online dating and gets advice from her children.
Nina is extremely uncomfortable throughout the entire episode. She goes in to buy some junk food after her night shift is over and encounters two young girls that insult her and she immediately categorizes in her mind as less than moral ladies. Nina is struggling with the knowledge that her ex-husband blew up Chris' car and she feels it is up to her to catch him. She sets her ex-husband up so the police can catch him but he doesn't show up until she is leaving with the police. Chris and his daughter are staying with his mother-in-law because the police feel he shouldn't stay at home in case Brendan knows where he lives. Darcy is still being the grand father to his new son. Nina and Chris do an emergency C-section on another doctors patient when the baby is in distress and the doctor cannot be reached. Brendan accosts Nina in the lift at work and traps her there.
Chris is awfully nice about the whole situation with his car. Nina feels horrible about it but he doesn't want her to feel bad. He's got a lot going on in his life and he doesn't want to share any of it with Nina because he doesn't want to put his problems on her. He's a nice guy through and through.
Nina is as all over the map this week as she was in the premiere movie. She is still fantasizing every chance she gets. About Chris. About her ex-husband. About the people she works with.
Billie is a big softie for Mick. All he has to do is start singing "Billie's Song" to her and she jumps right into his arms. He drives up outside a house she's showing and plays the song and she kisses him rather than being angry. She's completely unpredictable.
Jimmy's girlfriend has completely given up on her education. He clearly doesn't want the relationship the way Odile does. He tries to get her to go back to France but the story he gives her fails miserably. He finally tells her the truth about the relationship and, in turn, Odile drops a big secret of her own on him.
There were some great humorous moments in this episode. A nurse who was keeping a vial of fresh sperm between her breasts to keep it at body temperature dropped it and stepped on it by accident. As she was cleaning it up, a doctor walked by and muttered "what a waste" beneath his breath. Nina's fantasies were funny.
The hour format felt better this week than last weeks much longer 2 hour show. At times last week it felt like the show was going on a bit too long and even this week things sometimes felt a tad slow. While I'm not as much in love with Offspring as I am another show by the same creative team, Tangle, I do like it. There have been some great moments thus far and the characters are good. I'm hoping that with a bit more time and a few more episodes, I'll come to love it as much as I do Tangle.
